Every issue of Cờ Lau since the eighties has carried an original scout story — hand-drawn, written in Vietnamese, first published in the troop's printed newsletter. This is the archive, slowly coming online.
Part One — a fire breaks in the woods, and the scouts respond. Phần Một — đám cháy bùng phát trong rừng, đoàn Hướng Đạo vào cuộc. Cờ Lau · Issue 85 · Page 10
Part Two — the lesson left behind, after the fire goes out. Phần Hai — bài học để lại sau khi lửa tắt. Cờ Lau · Issue 86 · Pages 14–15
For more than four decades, Hoạ Sĩ Kim Khánh has drawn original scout stories for the Cờ Lau newsletter — fires fought, camps pitched, weekly lessons. Signed inside the panels, told in Vietnamese, made for the kids growing up between two cultures.
No other Vietnamese-American scout troop has a comic series like this. Không liên đoàn Hướng Đạo Việt-Mỹ nào khác có một loạt truyện tranh chạy liên tục như vậy.
We're digitizing the back catalog one issue at a time. Every time a story comes back online, it gets posted here.
What's on this page right now is the opening two installments of the fire-rescue story from Cờ Lau 85 and 86. As we finish scanning the rest of the archive, every recovered story gets posted here — with context, original publication date, and a link back to the full issue in the Library.
If you have old Cờ Lau issues that haven't been digitized yet — or want to help with the scanning — please get in touch.
